About Highgate School

Highgate is an academically selective co-educational day school in north London, with an unusual combination of historic buildings, extensive green spaces and access to the capital’s cultural life. Its pre-prep, junior and senior divisions create a long educational pathway, while music, drama, sport, clubs and community initiatives sit alongside a demanding academic curriculum. Highgate also has a well-developed bursary programme to broaden access.

At 11+ into Year 7, Highgate expects around 80 new external entrants to join approximately 105 pupils progressing from its Junior School, creating a year group of roughly 185. External applicants take the school’s English and maths examinations, and a significant proportion return for group interviews and taster lessons; current-school references are also considered. There is no standard 13+ intake, although Year 9 occasional-place assessments may run in English and maths if vacancies are available.
