Talent vs. Hard Work
Write a discursive essay exploring the debate between natural talent and hard work. Consider whether being born with a special gift or putting in hours of dedicated effort is more critical for achieving success.
Your essay should:
- Examine the role of natural talent in areas like sports, music, art, or academics.
- Analyze the impact of consistent practice, determination, and hard work.
- Present a balanced discussion representing both sides of the debate.
- Conclude with your own clear viewpoint on which factor is the ultimate key to success.
💡 Writing Tips
- •
Think about what 'talent' means (being naturally good at something) and what 'hard work' means (practising a lot).
- •
Brainstorm famous people or even friends/family who are good at something. Did they get good from talent or hard work?
- •
Try to think of reasons why talent is important AND reasons why hard work is important.
- •
Use examples from different areas like sports, music, art, or even school subjects.
- •
Don't just pick one side! Show that you understand both are important, even if you think one is a little more important.
📝 Sample Answer
Many people wonder if it's better to be naturally talented or to work really hard to achieve success. I think both are important, but hard work often wins in the end.
Someone might be born with a natural talent for drawing. They can sketch amazing pictures without much effort. This is a great start! However, if they never practise or learn new techniques, their drawing might not improve much. On the other hand, someone who isn't a natural artist but loves drawing and practises every day, watching tutorials and trying new things, will probably become much better over time. Their hard work helps them learn skills that talent alone can't teach.
Think about football players. Some players are incredibly talented; they just seem to know where the ball will go. But even the most talented players, like Cristiano Ronaldo, spend hours and hours training, running, and practising their shots. If they didn't work hard, they wouldn't stay at the top. Hard work helps you make the most of your talent and even overcome areas where you aren't naturally gifted. So, while talent can give you a head start, hard work is what helps you reach your goals and stay successful.
