Healthy School Lunches
Write a discursive essay exploring the question: Should schools enforce strict healthy eating rules?
In your writing, you must present a balanced discussion by exploring arguments for both sides of the debate. Ensure you remain objective and fair to both viewpoints throughout your main paragraphs. Conclude your essay by sharing your own reasoned opinion on the matter.
💡 Writing Tips
- •
Think about why strict rules might be good (e.g., health, energy).
- •
Think about why strict rules might not be good (e.g., choice, fun).
- •
Use connecting words like 'On one hand...' and 'On the other hand...'
- •
Give reasons for each point you make.
- •
Finish by saying what you think, but only after discussing both sides fairly.
📝 Sample Answer
Some people think schools should make very strict rules about what we eat for lunch. They say that if we only eat healthy food like salads, fruit, and sandwiches, we will have more energy to learn and play. It could stop children from eating too much sugar or unhealthy snacks, which might make them sleepy in lessons. If everyone eats well, it could help us all be healthier and stronger.
On the other hand, many people believe that children should have some choice about what they eat. It might be boring to eat only healthy food every single day, and sometimes a small treat can be nice. Some parents also feel it's their job, not the school's, to teach their children about healthy eating and decide what they have for lunch. If rules are too strict, some children might not eat their lunch at all if they don't like what's offered.
I think it's important for schools to encourage healthy eating, but maybe not be too strict. A balance between healthy choices and a little bit of freedom seems best.
