Plastic Packaging: Solutions

Primary & ElementaryAdvancedDiscursive Writing

Write an essay discussing how we can work together to solve the global plastic packaging crisis.

Your essay must explore solutions from three distinct perspectives:

  • Consumers: What everyday people can do to reduce plastic waste.
  • Companies: How businesses can change their packaging and materials.
  • Governments: What laws or initiatives could be put in place.

Explain the specific actions each group can take and how these actions make a real difference. Conclude with a summary of how collective action can create a cleaner future.

💡 Writing Tips

  • •

Think about what plastic packaging you see every day and why it's a problem.

  • •

For each group (us, shops, government), brainstorm at least two ideas of what they could do.

  • •

Remember to explain why your ideas would help reduce plastic.

  • •

Start with an introduction, discuss each group in separate paragraphs, and finish with a concluding thought.

  • •

Use linking words like "firstly," "also," "however," and "finally" to make your writing flow well.

📝 Sample Answer

Plastic packaging is everywhere, from our food to our toys, and it's causing a big mess for our planet. We need to find ways to use less of it.

One important group is us, the consumers. We can make a difference by choosing products with less plastic packaging when we go shopping. For example, I could buy loose fruit and vegetables instead of ones wrapped in plastic trays. We could also remember to bring reusable bags to the supermarket and use refillable water bottles instead of buying new plastic ones. If lots of people do this, it tells companies what we want.

Companies also have a huge part to play. They could try to use different materials for packaging, like cardboard or glass, which can be recycled more easily. Some companies are already trying out clever ideas, like edible packaging or allowing customers to bring their own containers to fill up. If companies make it easier for us to choose plastic-free options, more people will do it.
