Shopping Online vs. In Stores
Write a balanced discursive essay exploring the advantages of shopping online versus shopping in physical stores. In your writing, you must address three key areas: convenience, cost, and community impact. Show both viewpoints fairly before concluding with your own reasoned opinion on which shopping method is ultimately better and why. Aim to persuade your reader using clear explanations and thoughtful examples.
đĄ Writing Tips
- â˘
Think about your own experiences: Have you ever bought something online or gone to a shop? What did you like or dislike?
- â˘
Make a 'for and against' list: Before you start writing, list ideas for online shopping and ideas for shopping in a store.
- â˘
Remember the three 'C's: Think about Convenience (is it easy?), Cost (is it cheaper?), and Community (how does it help local shops and people?).
- â˘
Use linking words: Words like 'however', 'on the other hand', 'similarly', 'both', 'but' will help you compare and contrast.
đ Sample Answer
When I want a new comic book, I sometimes ask my mum to order it online. It's super convenient because we can do it late at night in our pyjamas, and it just arrives at our door a few days later. Often, online shops have special offers, making the comic a bit cheaper, which is great. However, I also love going to the local bookshop with my dad. It's not as quick as clicking a button, but it's a fun outing. I can actually hold the comic, flick through the pages, and sometimes even discover a new series I didn't know about! Buying from our local shop also feels good because we know we're helping the people who work there and keeping our high street busy. While online is easy and often cheaper, going to a real shop feels more like an adventure and helps our town.
