Nature Reserves: Strict or Open?
Task: Write a balanced discursive essay exploring how nature reserves should be managed.
The Debate:
- Should reserves enforce strict rules (such as restricted access, no dogs, and limited paths) to protect wildlife from human interference?
- Or should they be open and accessible, allowing activities like picnics and exploration to help people connect with and learn to value nature?
Requirements:
- Discuss the arguments for both strict protection and open access.
- Conclude with your own reasoned viewpoint on where the best balance lies.

Nature reserves are wonderful places where we can find incredible wildlife, from buzzing bees to soaring birds. But there's a big question: should they be very strict, or more open for everyone?
On one hand, strict rules make a lot of sense. If people can't wander everywhere, or bring their dogs off leads, then shy animals like deer won't be scared away. Rare plants won't get accidentally trodden on. Keeping some areas completely quiet and untouched means animals have safe places to raise their young and find food without any human disturbance. This way, the wildlife is truly protected and can flourish.
However, I also think it's important for people to enjoy nature reserves. If families can have picnics, walk different paths, and get a bit closer to nature, they learn so much. When children see a wild bird or a tiny insect up close, they feel excited and want to protect it. If reserves are too strict, people might stop visiting and won't feel connected to the natural world. Learning firsthand can inspire people to care about conservation.
In my opinion, a good nature reserve probably needs a bit of both. Maybe some very strict areas for the most delicate creatures, but also welcoming parts where people can explore and learn, as long as they are respectful. It's about finding the right balance so both people and wildlife can benefit.
