Being a Child: Easier Today?
The Prompt
Imagine you could travel back in time to when your grandparents were children, maybe about 50 years ago! Would being a child then be very different from being a child today? In this writing task, you'll explore the fascinating question: Is Being a Child Easier Today?
We want you to think about what life might have been like for children in the past compared to your own experiences now. Consider things like:
- Technology: What gadgets do you have that they didn't? How did they play games or learn without computers and phones?
- School: Were lessons the same? Did they have different rules or activities?
- Chores & Responsibilities: Did children in the past have more jobs to do around the house or outside?
- Safety & Freedom: Did they play out more freely, or were there different worries?
- Friends & Family: How did they keep in touch or spend time together?
Your job is to discuss whether you think childhood is genuinely easier, perhaps harder, or simply different now. Use examples to explain your ideas and help your reader understand your point of view.

📝 Sample Answer
Being a child today feels very different to how it might have been 50 years ago, especially with technology. I can video call my grandma who lives far away, whereas children in the past would have had to write letters or wait for a special phone call. Also, I have a tablet for learning and playing games, but my grandma tells me she spent most of her time playing outside with her friends, making up games with sticks and stones. So, while we have lots of screens now, they had more outdoor adventures. It's not necessarily easier or harder, just a very different way to grow up!
