Money: Key to Happiness?

The Prompt

Have you ever heard the saying, 'Money can't buy happiness'? It's a big idea, and we want you to explore it!

Imagine you have a magic wallet that always has money. What wonderful things could it help you do or have? Maybe a comfy home, yummy food, exciting holidays, or even helping others. These things can make life much more comfortable and fun!

But now, think about the things that truly make you happy that money can't buy. Can money buy a best friend? Can it buy the feeling of being loved by your family? Can it buy good health if you're poorly, or the joy of playing outside with your pals?

Your task is to write a discussion that looks at BOTH sides of this idea:

  • First, write about how money can make life better and bring comfort or opportunities. Give some clear examples!
  • Then, write about the important parts of happiness that money simply cannot provide. Again, use examples!

Think about your own experiences or what you've seen. What do you think is the real connection between money and feeling truly happy? We're looking for your balanced thoughts on this interesting question!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Start by telling us what you think: Can money buy happiness, or not?

  • Think of ways money can make life better (e.g., nice home, fun trips, good food). Give examples!

  • Now think of things money cannot buy (e.g., true friends, family love, good health). Give examples!

  • Use words like 'however', 'on the other hand', or 'also' to connect your ideas.

  • End by summarising your main point.

📝 Sample Answer

Lots of people say 'money can't buy happiness,' but I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Money can definitely make life much easier and more comfortable, which can make you feel happier in some ways. For example, if you have enough money, you can live in a warm, safe house, eat tasty food, and buy nice clothes. You could also go on exciting holidays, visit new places, or buy books and games that you enjoy. Money can even help you pay for doctors if you're ill, or give you the chance to learn new skills like playing an instrument. All these things can certainly improve your quality of life and make you smile.

However, I also think there are many important things that money simply cannot buy. You can't buy true friends who will always be there for you, or the love you get from your family. Money can't buy good health if you're very poorly, and it can't buy the feeling of being truly loved or accepted for who you are. Even if you had all the toys in the world, you might still feel lonely if you didn't have anyone to share them with. So, while money can give you lots of nice things and make life more comfortable, it's the people around you and the special feelings inside that bring real, lasting happiness.
