Online Learning: Future of Education?

Primary & ElementaryChallengingDiscursive Writing

The Prompt

Hey brilliant young writers! Remember when schools had to close and we all learned from home using computers and tablets? That was called online learning, and it was a big change!

Now, we want you to be a super-smart detective and investigate this idea: Is online learning the way we'll all learn in the future?

Your mission is to explore both sides of the story. Think about the 'superpowers' of online learning – what makes it great? Maybe it's the flexibility, meaning you can learn from anywhere, perhaps even your comfy bed! Or maybe it's how it can help people who live far away still get an education.

But every superhero has a challenge! What are the 'kryptonite' moments of online learning? Perhaps it's how easy it is to get distracted by your toys or a pet. Or maybe it's missing out on playing with your friends at break time and chatting face-to-face with your teacher.

Your job is to discuss these good points (benefits) and tricky points (challenges) clearly. Use examples from your own experience or what you've heard to explain your ideas. There's no right or wrong answer, just your thoughtful discussion! Let's see what you think about the future of learning!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Brainstorm both sides: Before you start writing, make two lists. One for the good things about online learning (like learning from home) and another for the tricky things (like getting distracted).

  • Use linking words: When you move from a good point to a tricky point, use words like 'however', 'but', or 'on the other hand' to help your writing flow nicely.

  • Give examples: Try to think of examples from your own experience or things you've heard to make your points stronger. For instance, "I found it helpful because..."

  • Start and finish clearly: Begin with a short introduction that tells the reader what you'll be discussing. End with a conclusion that summarises your main ideas.

📝 Sample Answer

Online learning became a big part of our lives during the pandemic. One great thing about it was the flexibility. I remember being able to learn from my kitchen table, which felt different and sometimes quite comfy! It also meant that even if you couldn't get to school, you could still keep up with your lessons.

However, online learning also had its tricky parts. It was easy to get distracted by my cat walking past or wanting to play with my toys instead of concentrating on the screen. I also really missed seeing all my friends every day and playing games together at playtime. It just wasn't the same as being in the classroom with everyone.
