Sport for Everyone or Elites?
The Prompt
Imagine your school's sports day or PE lessons. Some people think school sports are mostly about finding the very best athletes – the ones who can run the fastest, jump the highest, or score the most goals – and helping them become champions. They might say this helps our school win trophies and makes our talented pupils shine! This is the 'Elites' idea.
But other people believe school sports should be for EVERYONE. They think it's more important for all pupils, no matter if they're super speedy or just enjoy a gentle kick-about, to get active, have fun, and learn about teamwork. They might say this helps everyone stay healthy and feel part of the school community. This is the 'Sport for Everyone' idea.
Your task is to write a discussion that explores both of these ideas. Think about:
- Why might it be good to focus on talented athletes?
- Why might it be better to focus on everyone participating?
- What are the benefits of each approach?
Try to present both sides fairly, giving good reasons for each viewpoint, before you share what you think is the best way forward for school sport. Use clear sentences and good reasons for your points!

📝 Sample Answer
Some people believe school sports should mostly be about finding the best athletes. They think it's important to train the fastest runners or the strongest throwers so our school can win competitions. This also helps very talented children develop their skills and maybe even become future Olympians or professional sports stars. It can make the school proud to have champions.
However, other people argue that school sports should be for every single child, no matter their ability. They say it's more important for everyone to get active, have fun, and learn about teamwork and fair play. If every child gets a chance to play, it helps them stay healthy, builds their confidence, and makes sure everyone feels included in school life. Not everyone will be a champion, but everyone can enjoy moving their body.
I think it's important for schools to try and do both. It's good to help talented children, but it's even more important to make sure every child gets to enjoy sport and stay healthy.
