Merchant Taylors’ School in Crosby is a separate institution from Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood. Founded more than four centuries ago, it brings together a prep school, senior school and Sixth Form in a longstanding Merseyside educational community. Since September 2025 its formerly separate boys’ and girls’ senior schools have operated as a single co-educational school, combining traditional academic expectations with music, sport, creative arts and community engagement.
The main external senior entry is 11+ into Year 7; a reliable fixed intake number is not published, and 13+ is not advertised as a standard annual entry point. For 2027 Year 7 entry, applicants take a computer-based Cognitive Abilities Test assessing verbal, non-verbal and quantitative reasoning, with school references also considered. Candidates in the top quarter of the entrance assessment can be invited to further English and maths papers and an interview for academic scholarship consideration. Year 9 enquiries are handled individually according to vacancies.
