About City of London School for Girls

City of London School for Girls is a selective independent day school with a rare location in the Barbican, at the heart of London’s cultural and financial district. Its intellectually curious atmosphere is complemented by close access to concert halls, galleries and theatres, and pupils are encouraged to pursue academic interests alongside creative work, sport and community involvement. The school attracts girls from across a wide London catchment.

The main entry is 11+ into Year 7; the school does not consistently publish a fixed total of available places. Its current process begins with a computer-based assessment of verbal, numerical and non-verbal skills, then English and maths papers and interviews for candidates progressing to the second stage. Year 9/13+ has historically been an occasional-entry route, but the school now expects to expand the year group by at least five pupils where places permit; these applicants take English, maths and a general paper, followed by interview.
