The Prompt

Imagine our school playground – is it a super-fun adventure land, or does it feel a bit tired and boring? It's time for a change! Your mission is to write a super-persuasive letter to our school's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

Think of yourself as a detective and a designer. First, be a detective: look at our current playground. What's old, broken, or just not very exciting? Why isn't it good enough anymore? These are your 'reasons why'.

Next, be a designer: dream up amazing new equipment or features! What would make our playground truly fantastic? Maybe a huge climbing frame, more swings, a super-fast slide, a quiet reading zone, or even an adventure trail. Be specific with your ideas!

Most importantly, you need to convince the PTA. For each problem you find and each new idea you suggest, explain why it's important and how it would make playtime better, more fun, and fairer for all the children at our school. Your goal is to make them say, 'Wow, these pupils have some great ideas – let's make it happen!'

💡 Writing Tips

  • Start by saying hello to the PTA and tell them straight away what your letter is about (e.g., 'Our playground needs help!').

  • Explain why the current playground isn't great. Is it old, broken, or just not very exciting?

  • Suggest specific new things you'd love to see (e.g., a new slide, more swings, an adventure trail, a quiet reading spot).

  • For each new idea, explain how it would make playtime better for everyone (e.g., 'This would help us be active' or 'It would give us somewhere to relax').

  • Use strong, persuasive words like 'imagine', 'important', 'we deserve', and 'please consider'.

  • Finish by thanking them and clearly asking them to think about your ideas.

📝 Sample Answer

Dear Wonderful PTA,

I am writing to you today because I believe our school playground needs a big, exciting makeover! Right now, our playground feels a bit tired. The old climbing frame is wobbly, and sometimes the swings are all taken, leaving many of us with nothing much to do but stand around. It can feel a bit boring, and not everyone gets to be active and have fun.

Imagine if we had a brand new, amazing adventure trail! It could have a super-fast slide, a tricky rope bridge, and even a small climbing wall. We could also have some proper, safe swings for everyone, and maybe even a quiet reading bench under a colourful canopy for when we need a break.

These new things would make a huge difference! An adventure trail would help us stay fit and strong, giving us exciting challenges. More swings mean less waiting and more happy faces. The quiet bench would be perfect for children who want to read or chat calmly with friends. Our playtime would be much more exciting and fair for everyone.

Please, PTA, consider helping us create a playground where every single pupil can have an amazing, active, and fun playtime. We really deserve a fantastic outdoor space!

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely, A Pupil Who Loves Playtime
