Improve Local Park
The Prompt
Imagine your local park, the place where you play, meet friends, or just enjoy the fresh air. Is it perfect? Or do you have some brilliant ideas to make it even better?
Your challenge is to become a park champion! You're going to write a powerful persuasive letter to your local council. This letter needs to convince them that your ideas for improving your nearest park are fantastic and really need to happen.
Think about:
- What's wrong or missing? (e.g., old, broken swings; rubbish bins overflowing; not enough colourful flowers; muddy paths).
- What specific improvements would you suggest? (e.g., 'a brand new climbing frame,' 'more recycling bins,' 'a colourful flowerbed near the entrance,' 'a cleaner toilet block').
- Why are these improvements so important? How will they make the park better for everyone – children, families, older people, and even nature? (e.g., 'A new climbing frame would give older children more to do and stop them getting bored,' 'More bins would keep the park tidy and safe for wildlife.').
Your goal is to persuade the council to take action and make your park a wonderful place for the whole community!
💡 Writing Tips
- •
Start by saying which park you're writing about and why it's important.
- •
Pick 2-3 specific things you want to improve (e.g., 'a new swing set' instead of 'better play equipment').
- •
For each improvement, explain why it's a good idea and how it would help people.
- •
Use strong, convincing words like 'essential,' 'vital,' or 'crucial.'
- •
Remember to be polite but firm – you want them to listen to your ideas!
📝 Sample Answer
Dear Local Council,
I am writing to you today about Oakwood Park, which is a very important place for me and my friends. We love playing there, but I believe some improvements would make it even better for everyone.
Firstly, the swings are very old and often have long queues. I think it would be fantastic if you could install a brand new set of swings, especially some for older children. This would mean more children could play at once and no one would feel left out.
Secondly, the bins in the park are often overflowing. If we had more recycling bins, people would be able to put their rubbish in the right place, keeping the park much cleaner and safer for all the animals that live there. A cleaner park would make everyone want to visit more often.
