Books vs. E-Readers

The Prompt

Hey bookworms! Have you ever wondered if traditional paper books or shiny new e-readers are the champions of reading? It's a big debate, and we want your opinion!

Your mission is to write an exciting 'opinion piece' for our school's literary magazine. This means you need to choose a side – are you Team Paper Book or Team E-Reader? Once you've picked, your job is to convince everyone reading why your choice is absolutely the best way to enjoy a story.

Think about these three important things:

  1. Reading Enjoyment: Which one feels better to read? Does one make stories more magical or easier to get lost in?
  2. Convenience: Which is easier to carry around? Can you take more books on holiday with one than the other?
  3. Environmental Impact: Which one is kinder to our planet? Does one use less paper or less electricity?

Use strong arguments and examples to persuade our readers. We want to hear your voice and your reasons why one format truly shines above the other!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Pick your favourite: Decide if you love paper books or e-readers most before you start writing!

  • Give reasons: For each point (fun, easy, planet), explain why your choice is better.

  • Use strong words: Words like 'clearly', 'definitely', 'without a doubt' make your opinion powerful.

  • Talk to the reader: Imagine you're trying to convince a friend who isn't sure which is best.

  • Start strong, finish strong: Grab attention at the beginning and leave a lasting impression at the end.

📝 Sample Answer

Why Paper Books Will Always Be My Favourite!

In a world full of screens and gadgets, many people are turning to e-readers, but for me, nothing beats the magic of a traditional paper book. When it comes to pure reading enjoyment, the feel of paper between my fingers and the smell of old pages simply can't be matched by a cold screen. I love seeing how far I've read and flipping back quickly to re-read a favourite part – it feels more real and connected to the story.

While e-readers are light, I find paper books surprisingly convenient too. I can lend my favourite stories to friends, and I never have to worry about running out of battery! Plus, once a paper book is made, it doesn't need electricity to work. I believe choosing to re-read, borrow, or swap physical books is a wonderful way to enjoy stories and be kind to our planet, making them the clear winner for any true book lover.
