Uniforms: For or Against?
The Prompt
Have you ever thought about what we wear to school? Most of us wear a school uniform, but is it really the best idea, or would we be better off without it?
Your mission is to write a super persuasive article for our school newspaper, the 'School Scoop'! You need to convince everyone – your classmates and their parents – that school uniforms are either a fantastic idea OR a not-so-great idea.
If you think uniforms are a great idea, you might argue that they help everyone feel equal (no one feels left out because of their clothes), they save time in the mornings, and they stop us from getting distracted by fancy outfits.
If you think uniforms are a bad idea, you could say that they stop us from showing off our unique personalities, they can sometimes be uncomfortable, or maybe they don't let us choose clothes that fit the weather.
Pick ONE side, then gather your strongest arguments. Your goal is to make your readers nod their heads and agree with YOU! Make your points clear, use exciting words, and try to persuade everyone in our school community.
💡 Writing Tips
- •
Choose Your Side: First, decide if you are strongly FOR school uniforms or AGAINST them. Stick to one side!
- •
Strong Reasons: Think of 2-3 really good reasons to support your choice. Why do you believe what you believe?
- •
Persuade with Words: Use powerful words to convince your readers, like "clearly," "definitely," "imagine," or "it's obvious that..."
- •
Catchy Start & Finish: Begin your article with an exciting sentence to grab attention, and end with a strong sentence that reminds everyone of your main point.
- •
Who are you talking to?: Remember you're writing for your school newspaper, so imagine you're trying to convince your friends and their parents!
