Something Soft: A Sensory Writing Challenge!

Your mission is to write 3 to 5 vivid sentences describing one specific soft thing. Instead of just saying it is "soft", use descriptive words to help your reader feel its texture.

What to include in your writing:

  • The Object: What is your soft thing (like a blanket, a kitten, or a cloud) and what does it look like?
  • The Texture: How does it feel to touch? Is it warm, squishy, cool, or fluffy? What is it made of?
  • The Feeling: Where do you find it, and how does holding or touching it make you feel?

Use your imagination and sensory words to paint a clear picture so your reader wants to reach out and touch it too!

💡 Writing Tips

  • •

Choose one specific soft thing you know well, like a fluffy pet, a favourite blanket, or a cuddly toy.

  • •

Think about how it feels when you touch it. Is it warm, bouncy, smooth, or squishy?

  • •

Use exciting words (adjectives!) to describe its softness, like 'velvety', 'downy', 'fluffy', or 'silky'.

  • •

Write about what it looks like and where you might find it.
