The Prompt

Welcome, young writers! Imagine you've just come back from an amazing trip to the zoo, or perhaps you're a super zookeeper who knows all about the animals. Your mission is to pick one fascinating animal that you could find living in a zoo. We want you to write a short, exciting paragraph (about 3-5 sentences) all about this animal. Think about:

  • What is its name? (e.g., lion, monkey, penguin)
  • What does it look like? (Is it big or small? What colour is its fur, feathers, or scales? Does it have any special features like a long neck or big paws?)
  • What does it like to eat?
  • What does it do in its enclosure? (Does it play, sleep, swim, or make a special sound?) Try to use interesting words to describe your animal and make your writing come alive for your reader!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Choose one interesting animal you might see at a zoo.

  • Describe what it looks like: What colour is it? Is it big or small?

  • What does your chosen animal like to eat?

  • What does it do all day? (e.g., sleep, play, swim, roar)
