Bug or Insect

The Prompt

Hello young writers! Today, we're going on a mini-adventure into the tiny world of bugs and insects. Think about all the amazing creepy-crawlies you've seen: a busy bee, a colourful butterfly, a speedy ant, or even a shiny ladybird. Do you have a favourite?

Your mission is to choose ONE bug or insect that you know well, or one that you find really interesting. It could be something you've seen in your garden, at the park, or even learned about in a book.

Once you've picked your special bug, I want you to write a short paragraph (about 3-5 sentences) all about it. Tell us:

  • What is its name?
  • What does it look like? (Think about its colours, size, how many legs it has, does it have wings?)
  • Where does it like to live?
  • What special things does it do? (Does it fly, crawl, make a web, eat leaves?)

Try to use some exciting describing words to make your bug come alive for the reader! Remember to use full stops and capital letters.

💡 Writing Tips

  • Choose your favourite bug or insect to write about.

  • Describe what it looks like: What colour is it? How many legs? Does it have wings?

  • Where does it live? (e.g., in the grass, on a flower, under a rock).

  • What does it do? (e.g., fly, crawl, make a web, eat leaves).

  • Use exciting words to help your reader imagine your bug!
