The Prompt
Imagine the sun is shining, the gulls are calling, and the salty air fills your lungs! Your mission is to write a wonderful descriptive piece about a 'Seaside Adventure'.
Think about a perfect day you've spent or imagined at the beach. What did you do from the moment you arrived until it was time to leave?
Bring your adventure to life for your reader!
- What did you see? The shimmering sea, colourful buckets, distant ships, towering sandcastles?
- What did you hear? The crash of waves, children's laughter, the squawk of seagulls, the rumble of an ice cream van?
- What did you smell? Salty air, warm chips, sun cream?
- What did you feel? The warm sand between your toes, the cool sea water, a gentle breeze, the sticky sweetness of an ice cream?
- What did you taste? Your favourite ice cream, sandy sandwiches (oops!), salty chips?
Use amazing adjectives, powerful verbs, and vivid descriptions to paint a picture with your words. Try to tell a story of your day, showing how your feelings changed and what made it special. Make your reader feel like they're right there with you, enjoying the seaside!

The moment we stepped onto the golden sand, a wave of excitement washed over me. The air buzzed with the happy shouts of children and the constant, soothing whisper of the waves. Overhead, a cheeky seagull swooped, its cry sharp against the clear blue sky. I kicked off my sandals, feeling the warm, gritty sand squish between my toes before rushing towards the sparkling, inviting sea. The water, surprisingly cold at first, soon felt refreshing as I splashed and giggled, chasing the foamy edges of the waves. Later, we built a magnificent sandcastle, its towers reaching for the sun, before enjoying a delicious, melting strawberry ice cream that dripped down my fingers. As the sun began to dip, painting the sky in fiery oranges and soft purples, I knew it had been the most perfect seaside adventure.
