School Break Time
The Prompt
Imagine the school bell ringing for break time! What happens next? We want you to paint a picture with your words, showing us exactly what your school is like during those exciting minutes.
Think about all your senses:
- What can you SEE? Are children running, playing games, or chatting? What do the playground, field, or corridors look like? Are there bright colours, shadows, or busy movements?
- What can you HEAR? Is it loud with shouts and laughter, or quieter with murmurs and the rustle of leaves? Can you hear footballs kicking, skipping ropes thudding, or birds singing?
- What can you FEEL? Is the air crisp and cold, or warm and sunny? Do you feel the energy of everyone moving around, or the calm of a quiet corner?
- Are there any SMELLS? Perhaps the faint scent of grass, leftover lunch, or fresh air?
Your goal is to use vivid descriptions to transport your reader right into your school break time. Make us feel like we're there, watching and listening alongside you. Use powerful adjectives and exciting verbs to bring your scene to life!

📝 Sample Answer
Ding-dong! The bell screeched, unleashing a tidal wave of excited children into the playground. Immediately, the quiet hum of classrooms exploded into a riot of sound. Footballs thudded against brick walls, while a tangle of skipping ropes whizzed through the air, their rhythmic slapping echoing across the tarmac. Near the climbing frame, a flock of Year 4s shrieked with delight, scrambling up the colourful bars like tiny monkeys. The air, crisp and cool, carried the scent of freshly cut grass mixed with the faint sweetness of biscuits from packed lunches. Everywhere, cheerful chatter and booming laughter bounced between the grey school buildings, making the whole playground feel alive and buzzing with joyful energy.
