The Prompt

Get ready to make our tummies rumble with some super descriptive writing! We're going to dive into the wonderful world of your absolute favourite food.

Imagine it's right in front of you. Before you even take a bite, what amazing smells fill the air? Does it smell sweet and sugary like fresh-baked cookies, or rich and savoury like a hearty roast dinner? Maybe it's zesty and fresh like a summer salad, or warm and spicy like a curry. Close your eyes and really think about those smells – what do they make you think of?

Now, picture taking that first glorious bite. What's the very first thing your tongue experiences? Is it a burst of tangy tomato, the creamy richness of melted cheese, or the satisfying crunch of a crispy chip? As you chew, do new flavours appear? Is it salty, sweet, sour, bitter, or that lovely 'umami' savoury taste? Does it feel smooth, chewy, or melt in your mouth?

Your challenge is to use your senses to bring your favourite food to life for your reader. Make them almost able to smell and taste it just from your words! Don't just tell us it's 'good' – show us why it's good by describing every delicious detail of its smell and taste. What makes it so special and utterly irresistible to you?

πŸ“ Sample Answer

My absolute favourite food is a warm, gooey chocolate brownie. The moment it comes out of the oven, a rich, comforting smell fills the kitchen, like a giant hug made of cocoa and melted sugar. It’s a deep, sweet aroma that makes my mouth water instantly.

When I take my first bite, the outside is slightly crisp, but the inside is incredibly soft and fudgy, almost melting on my tongue. The taste is an explosion of intense, dark chocolate, sweet but not sickly, with a hint of bitterness that makes it truly grown-up and delicious. Tiny pockets of melted chocolate chips burst with even more sweetness. It leaves a lovely, warm, chocolatey aftertaste that makes me want another bite straight away. It’s pure happiness in every mouthful!
