Imagine it's the hottest day of summer, and you've just arrived at a beautiful, busy beach. The sun is shining brightly, and the air is filled with exciting sounds and smells. Your mission is to write a wonderful description that makes your reader feel like they are right there with you, experiencing every moment of this amazing beach day.
Think about all your senses to make your writing come alive:
- What can you SEE? Is the sky a brilliant blue? Are there fluffy white clouds? What colour is the sea? Are there colourful towels and umbrellas on the sand? What are people doing?
- What can you HEAR? Can you hear the waves crashing gently or roaring loudly? What about children laughing, seagulls squawking, or an ice cream van jingle?
- What can you SMELL? Can you smell salty sea air, sweet sun cream, or perhaps chips from a nearby stand?
- What can you FEEL? How does the hot sand feel on your toes? Is the sea water cool and refreshing? What does the warm sun feel like on your skin?
- What can you TASTE? Maybe a salty splash of sea water, or the sweet taste of an ice cream?
Use vivid adjectives (describing words) and strong verbs (action words) to paint a clear picture in the reader's mind. Make your description come alive!
