Animal Movement
The Prompt
Imagine you're an amazing nature photographer, ready to capture the perfect picture with words! Your challenge is to choose your absolute favourite animal and describe how it moves. Don't just tell us it runs fast – show us!
Think about:
- What does it look like when it moves? Is it big and lumbering, or small and quick?
- How does it use its body? Does it stretch, pounce, wiggle, or soar?
- **What sounds does it make (or not make) as it moves?
- What does its movement remind you of? Does it glide like a dancer, or stomp like a giant?
Use powerful verbs (action words!) and vivid adjectives (describing words!) to paint a picture in the reader's mind. Make us feel like we are right there, watching your incredible animal in motion. Let your words dance across the page!
💡 Writing Tips
- •
Choose your favourite animal and picture it clearly in your mind.
- •
Think about all the ways it moves: does it walk, run, jump, swim, fly, slither?
- •
Use exciting 'action' words (verbs) like 'prowls', 'swoops', 'darts', 'glides'.
- •
Add descriptive words (adjectives and adverbs) to show how it moves, e.g., 'silently', 'gracefully', 'swiftly'.
- •
Try to compare its movement to something else, like "It moves as smoothly as silk."
📝 Sample Answer
My favourite animal is the majestic tiger. When it moves through the tall jungle grass, it doesn't just walk; it prowls. Each enormous, padded paw is placed down with such care, it seems to move silently, like a whisper in the wind. Its powerful muscles ripple and flex beneath its striped coat as it slips between the trees. Then, if it spots something, it can crouch low, its body becoming a coiled spring. In a flash, it can leap with incredible power, covering huge distances in a single, graceful bound, landing softly on its feet. Even when it's just stretching, it arches its back and stretches its long tail, a picture of silent strength.
