Teacher Life Swap

Primary & ElementaryChallengingCreative Writing

Imagine waking up one morning to find you have swapped places with your teacher! You are suddenly in charge of the classroom, and your teacher is sitting at your desk as a pupil. Write an exciting story detailing your day in their shoes.

Key areas to explore in your story:

  • The Morning: How do you discover the swap? What is your morning routine like as an adult?
  • At School: What lessons do you teach? Are you a strict teacher or a fun one? How do you handle break time and homework?
  • After School: What does a teacher do when the pupils leave? How does your day end, and do you ever swap back?

Use your imagination to make the story detailed, funny, and surprising!

💡 Writing Tips

  • •

Start at the beginning: What time would you wake up as your teacher? What would your morning be like?

  • •

Think about the school day: What lessons would you teach? How would you handle break time? Would you give lots of homework or no homework?

  • •

What's different? How would it feel to be in charge? What funny or surprising things might happen?

  • •

Describe your feelings: Are you excited, overwhelmed, or a bit confused?

  • •

Use descriptive words: Make your reader really see and feel what your day is like.

📝 Sample Answer

The alarm blared, not with my usual cheerful tune, but with a harsh buzz. My eyes fluttered open, and I blinked at a ceiling that wasn't mine. My hand felt... bigger. I looked down. Where were my pyjamas? I was wearing a sensible nightie! Then I saw a photo on the bedside table: Mrs. Davison! Oh no! I was Mrs. Davison!

I stumbled out of bed and into the kitchen, where a cup of tea was already brewing – how did that happen? I quickly got ready, choosing a smart dress (no glittery trainers today, sadly). At school, the first lesson was Maths. I stood at the front, trying to remember all the times tables. "Right class," I boomed, trying to sound confident. "Today we're tackling fractions!" I looked at the whiteboard, then back at the class. My own face, in the front row, looked up at me with a cheeky grin. This was going to be a long day!
