Living in a Castle

The Prompt

Step back in time to a world of knights, kings, and towering stone walls! Imagine you are a child living inside a magnificent, ancient castle. What would your daily life be like?

Close your eyes and picture it:

  • What do you see? Are there tapestries on the walls, flickering torches, or views of rolling hills from a high window?
  • What do you hear? The clatter of armour, the neighing of horses, the roar of a fire, or perhaps the distant sound of a horn?
  • What do you smell? Woodsmoke, freshly baked bread from the kitchens, or the damp stone walls?
  • What do you feel? The cold stone floor beneath your feet, the rough wool of your clothes, or the excitement of a grand feast?

Think about your chores, your meals, your games, and where you would sleep. Would it be grand and exciting, or perhaps a little bit cold and scary? How would you spend your days?

Your mission is to write a descriptive piece that transports your reader right into the heart of your castle life. Use your imagination to bring the sights, sounds, smells, and feelings of living in a castle to life!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Imagine you've just woken up – what do you see, hear, and feel in your castle room?

  • Think about the different parts of a castle: the Great Hall, the kitchens, the dungeons, the battlements. What happens in each?

  • How is life in a castle different from your home today? (e.g., no TV, different food, colder rooms).

  • Use exciting adjectives (e.g., 'towering', 'draughty', 'bustling') to make your descriptions vivid.

  • What kind of person are you in the castle? A young knight, a princess, or a cook's helper?
