Your Mission

Write an exciting story about a once-in-a-lifetime school trip to the Moon after your class wins an amazing competition. Use vivid words to describe what you see, hear, and feel so your reader feels like they are right there with you.

Your story should cover three main parts:

  • The Journey There: Describe the excitement of the launch, the physical sensations of blasting off, and how Earth looks as it shrinks in the window.
  • The Moon's Surface: Describe stepping out onto the dusty lunar landscape, the giant craters, bouncing in low gravity, and seeing Earth hanging in the sky.
  • Activities on the Moon: Explain the fun and scientific things you do with your classmates, such as collecting moon rocks, playing zero-gravity games, or planting a flag.

💡 Writing Tips

  • •

Engage your senses: What do you see from the spaceship? What do you feel when you take off or walk on the Moon? What does the Moon look like up close?

  • •

Plan your journey: How do you get ready? What happens during blast-off? What do you do on the way to the Moon?

  • •

Describe the Moon: Think about the dusty ground, the giant craters, and how you might move differently in low gravity. Don't forget to look back at Earth!

  • •

Invent fun activities: What exciting and safe things could you and your classmates do on the Moon? Collect moon rocks? Play special games?

📝 Sample Answer

The countdown began, and my heart thumped like a drum. 'Three, two, one, lift-off!' The rocket roared, pushing me deep into my seat. Out the window, Earth became a swirling blue and white marble, shrinking away as we shot past fluffy clouds and into the inky blackness. Stars glittered like scattered diamonds, and soon, the giant, grey sphere of the Moon filled our view, looking closer and more real than any picture.

Stepping onto the dusty surface was surreal. My boots sank slightly into the fine, grey powder, and with each step, I bounced much higher than I ever could on Earth! Giant craters stretched for miles, some shallow, others deep and shadowy. The sky was black, even though the sun shone brightly, and the most incredible sight was Earth, hanging like a luminous blue and green jewel in the darkness. It was breathtaking.

Our first activity was a low-gravity bounce race – it was hilarious trying to stay upright! Then, armed with special scoopers, we collected glittering moon rocks, hoping to find something truly unique. We even tried to plant a tiny UK flag, but it kept floating away until we secured it with a heavy rock. As the sun began to set, casting long, eerie shadows across the lunar landscape, I knew this was the best school trip ever.
