📝 Sample Answer

At seven each morning, I still lay two cups beside the kettle. I have lived alone for four years, but my hands remember habits more faithfully than my mind does. When I notice the second cup, I return it to the cupboard and open the curtains.

Outside, children hurry towards school and a delivery van grumbles along the road. Inside, my clock ticks with enormous importance. I make porridge, water the geranium on the windowsill and read the newspaper from beginning to end. The house is not unhappy. It is simply quiet, and quietness can be both a gift and a burden.

I enjoy choosing the radio station without an argument. I can read until midnight or have toast for supper. Yet sometimes I miss the sound of someone calling from another room, asking a question that does not matter. A whole day can pass without my name being spoken aloud.

This afternoon, the girl next door knocked to ask whether I would show her how to plant spring bulbs. We worked in the garden until the light faded. As she left, she promised to come back on Saturday. I shut the door carefully. The house was just as quiet as before, but now the silence held something to look forward to.
