A Visit to the Village That Time Forgot
Have you ever visited somewhere that made you feel you had stepped into the past? Last weekend, I explored an open-air museum where old cottages, workshops and shops have been carefully preserved. It was unlike any ordinary museum I had seen.
Instead of walking along quiet corridors and reading labels, we stepped across cobbled streets and entered buildings filled with the sounds of everyday life. In one workshop, a blacksmith shaped glowing metal while sparks leapt from his hammer. Nearby, the sweet smell of freshly baked bread drifted from a tiny kitchen.
My favourite place was the old-fashioned schoolroom. Wooden desks stood in neat rows, and a chalkboard covered one wall. Sitting on a hard bench made me grateful for our comfortable chairs and colourful classrooms. I was surprised to learn how different lessons once felt to pupils.
The visit changed how I thought about history. People in the past were not just names in textbooks: they worked, laughed, learnt and worried, just as we do. Seeing their surroundings made their lives seem real.
