About Tonbridge School

Tonbridge School is an academically selective boys’ boarding and day school whose historic buildings and extensive facilities sit close to the centre of the Kent market town. The school is particularly noted for its combination of traditional house life, demanding academic teaching and wide-ranging sport, music, art, drama and engineering opportunities. Boarding and day houses both provide a strong sense of belonging within the wider community.

Its principal entry is 13+ into Year 9, when around 150 boys join, and there is no standard 11+ intake. Boys usually register in Year 6 and sit the ISEB Common Pre-test; some receive an unconditional place while others receive a provisional offer and take further entrance papers and an interview during Year 7. Academic and co-curricular scholarships are considered later, normally during Year 8. Sixth Form and occasional non-standard entry routes are separate from this main intake.
