Tech in Schools: Good or Bad?

The Prompt

Imagine your classroom. Do you use tablets for maths games, or computers for research? Technology, like iPads and laptops, is becoming a big part of school life. Some people believe it's brilliant! They think it makes learning more exciting, helps you find information quickly, and gets you ready for jobs in the future. It's like having a super-smart assistant right there with you!

However, others worry that too much screen time might be a problem. They wonder if it distracts us from our teachers, makes it harder to write by hand, or stops us from playing traditional games. They might even think it makes us miss out on important face-to-face learning.

Your task is to write a discussion piece about 'Tech in Schools: Good or Bad?'. Think about both sides of the argument. Do you believe technology makes school better, helps you learn, and prepares you for the world ahead? Or do you think it can sometimes get in the way, cause distractions, and change the way we learn for the worse? Share your ideas and reasons for both points of view!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Think of reasons why technology helps learning AND reasons why it might make it harder.

  • Use words like 'some people think...', 'however', or 'on the other hand' to show both sides of the argument.

  • Try to share ideas from both points of view fairly, not just picking one side.

  • Start by introducing the topic and finish with a short conclusion about your thoughts.

📝 Sample Answer

Tech in Schools: Good or Bad? Technology is everywhere, even in our classrooms! We use computers for projects and sometimes tablets for learning games. Some people think this is a fantastic idea. For example, using a tablet can make maths more fun with interactive apps, and searching for facts online means we can learn about anything in seconds. It also helps us get ready for jobs when we're older, as many jobs use computers every day. My teacher sometimes shows us amazing videos about space, which we couldn't see without tech! However, not everyone agrees that technology is always good. Sometimes, a tablet can be a big distraction. It's easy to get sidetracked by a game or a funny picture instead of focusing on the lesson. Also, if we type everything, we might forget how to write neatly with a pen. My mum says that sometimes it's better to talk to our friends and teachers face-to-face, instead of always looking at a screen. She also worries about our eyes getting tired from looking at screens too much. In conclusion, technology in schools has both good and bad points. It can make learning exciting and help us find information quickly, but it can also be distracting and might change how we learn in traditional ways. I think it's good when we use it carefully and in the right way.
