The Prompt

Do you have a brother or sister? If so, you'll know that sharing toys, games, and even personal space is a big part of family life! But is it always easy? Is it always fair? Sometimes it feels like you're giving up too much, or maybe you wish your sibling would share more.

For this writing task, you need to write a persuasive note to your sibling. A persuasive note tries to convince someone to agree with your point of view. You need to choose one side to argue.

Option 1: Argue FOR Sharing Write a note explaining why sharing your toys, games, or other possessions is actually a really good thing for both of you. Think about how it can make your home a happier, more peaceful place, and how you both benefit in the long run.

Option 2: Argue FOR Personal Space Write a note explaining why having your own space, or keeping certain things just for yourself, is important. You might argue for having a special drawer for your treasures, or a time when you can play alone without interruption. Explain why this leads to a better, more respectful relationship.

Remember, your goal is to convince your sibling to see things your way! Use strong reasons and friendly but firm language.

💡 Writing Tips

  • Choose your side: Decide if you're arguing FOR sharing or FOR having personal space. 2. Give clear reasons: Back up your opinion with strong reasons why it's a good idea. 3. Think about your sibling: What might convince them? (e.g., a fair trade or a benefit for them). 4. Use persuasive words: Words like 'imagine', 'surely', 'definitely', 'everyone benefits' can help. 5. Be polite but firm: Write kindly, but make your point strong and clear.

📝 Sample Answer

Dear Tom, I know we sometimes argue about who gets to play on the PlayStation, but I really think it would be much better if we tried to share it more fairly. Imagine all the fun we could have playing games together, or even taking turns so we both get to play our favourite ones without fighting. If we shared, Mum and Dad would be much happier, and our house would feel calmer. Plus, if you let me play your new football game sometimes, I promise I'll let you borrow my cool comics whenever you want. It's a win-win for both of us! Let's try to be better at sharing, okay? Love, Lily
