Ban Mobile Phones at School?
The Prompt
Mobile phones: they're in our pockets, on our desks, and sometimes, they even sneak into school! But should these devices really be allowed in classrooms or even on the playground? This is your chance to make a real difference!
Your mission is to write a powerful letter or essay to your local council. You need to persuade them that a complete ban on mobile phones in all schools (both primary and secondary) is either:
- A necessary step to help everyone learn better and stay safe, OR
- An unfair restriction that stops pupils from doing important things.
Think about strong reasons for your side: How do phones affect learning? What about safety and cyberbullying? Or do they help with emergencies, learning projects, or keeping in touch with family? Use clear, convincing arguments to make the council understand your point of view!
💡 Writing Tips
- •
Start with a strong opening sentence that clearly states your opinion to the council.
- •
Give at least three clear reasons why you believe phones should (or shouldn't) be banned.
- •
Use powerful words like 'essential,' 'distracting,' 'crucial,' or 'unfair' to make your arguments stronger.
- •
Think about what the council would care about: pupil safety, better learning, or fairness for everyone.
- •
Finish with a strong closing sentence that reminds them of your main point and encourages them to take action.
