Your Sibling or Friend

Primary SchoolModerateDescriptive Writing

The Prompt

Imagine you're painting a picture with words! Your task is to write a brilliant descriptive piece, either a short essay or a paragraph, all about one of your very best friends or a sibling. We want to really get to know this person through your writing.

Don't just tell us what they are like, show us! What makes them special and unique?

  • Appearance: What do they look like? Do they have bright eyes, messy hair, or a particular way they dress?
  • Personality: Are they always cracking jokes, super helpful, or incredibly brave? Give us an example of when they showed this quality.
  • Memories: What's a favourite memory you share? What makes that memory so special?
  • Feelings: How do they make you feel when you're with them?

Remember to make your writing super clear and easy to understand. Pay close attention to your grammar – that means full stops, capital letters, and correct spelling. Also, think about how your writing is put together: does it have a clear beginning, middle, and end? Use paragraphs to separate your ideas neatly. Your goal is to make your reader feel like they've met this amazing person by the time they finish reading!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Show, don't just tell: Instead of saying 'they are funny,' describe a time they made you laugh.

  • Use your senses: What do they look like? How do they sound when they talk or laugh?

  • Describe their personality: Are they kind, adventurous, quiet, or clever? Give an example of them showing this quality.

  • Think about a special memory: What's a favourite moment you've shared with them? What happened?
