Best Friend Description

Primary SchoolModerateDescriptive Writing

The Prompt

Imagine you're telling someone who's never met your best friend all about them. What would you say? This is your chance to write a wonderful description of your amazing best friend!

Think about two main things:

  1. Their Appearance: What do they look like? Describe their hair, eyes, smile, clothes, and anything else that makes them special. Use colourful words to paint a picture in the reader's mind. Do they have bright blue eyes that sparkle when they laugh? Is their hair a messy brown mop that always seems to have leaves in it?

  2. Their Personality: What are they like inside? Are they kind, funny, brave, or a bit cheeky? Think about the things they say and do that show what kind of person they are. Instead of just saying 'she is kind,' tell us a story about a time she was kind. Do they always make you giggle with silly jokes? Are they the first one to help you when you're stuck?

Your goal is to make your reader feel like they know your best friend just from reading your words. Use exciting adjectives and verbs to bring your description to life. Let your words show how much your best friend means to you!

💡 Writing Tips

  • Use fantastic adjectives to make your descriptions vivid!

  • Show, don't just tell! Instead of "He is funny," write about something funny he did.

  • Think about their appearance (what they look like) AND their personality (what they are like inside).

  • Imagine you're painting a picture with words – what colours, shapes, and feelings would you use?

  • Read your description aloud to see if it makes sense and sounds interesting.

📝 Sample Answer

My best friend is called Leo, and he's one of a kind! He has a wild mop of curly brown hair that always looks like he's just woken up, no matter how much he tries to comb it. His eyes are a warm, chocolate brown and crinkle at the corners when he flashes his huge, gap-toothed grin. Leo is a bit taller than me, and he often wears bright blue trainers that squeak when he walks. But it's Leo's personality that makes him truly special. He's the funniest person I know; he can make me laugh so hard I cry just by pulling a silly face. He's also incredibly kind. Last week, when I forgot my lunch, he shared his whole sandwich with me without even thinking twice. Leo is always up for an adventure, whether it's exploring the woods behind our houses or building the tallest LEGO tower ever. He's the best friend anyone could wish for because he always makes me feel happy and safe.
