The Prompt

Imagine you're telling a friend all about something you absolutely adore doing – your favourite hobby! This is your chance to really make your words paint a picture for the reader. We want you to write a detailed paragraph or a short essay (like a mini-story) about your most loved activity.

Think about:

  • What is your hobby? What is it called and what do you do?
  • How did you start? Did someone teach you, or did you discover it yourself?
  • What does it feel like when you're doing it? Use your senses – what do you see, hear, feel, maybe even smell?
  • Why do you love it so much? What makes it special to you?

Remember to make your writing clear and easy to understand. Use your best grammar (capital letters, full stops, commas) and make sure your sentences flow nicely from one to the next. Structure your writing with a clear beginning (introducing your hobby), a middle (describing it and why you love it), and an end (a concluding thought).

💡 Writing Tips

  • Use your senses: What do you see, hear, feel, or even smell when you do your hobby?

  • Use exciting words: Choose strong verbs and interesting adjectives to make your writing lively.

  • Show, don't just tell: Instead of saying 'it's fun,' describe why it's fun and what you do.

  • Plan your writing: Think about how you'll start (introduce your hobby), what you'll say in the middle (details and feelings), and how you'll finish.

  • Check your work: Read through for capital letters, full stops, and clear sentences.
