Giant for a Day

The Prompt

Imagine waking up one morning, stretching, and suddenly your bedroom ceiling is miles away! You're not just a little bit taller – you're a GIANT! Your bed feels like a postage stamp, and your favourite teddy bear is now smaller than your fingernail.

What happens next in your colossal day?

  • How big are you? Are you as tall as your house, or even bigger, like a skyscraper?
  • What's the very first thing you try to do? Maybe get out of bed, or look out the window?
  • How do you manage to get dressed? (Perhaps your old clothes are now just tiny scraps!)
  • When you step outside, what does the world look like? Are cars like little beetles and people like ants?
  • What challenges do you face? (Trying not to step on anything, finding enough food for a giant appetite!)
  • What amazing, incredible, or even silly things could you do as a giant? Could you help someone by reaching something high, or play a game of catch with a bus?

Remember to describe what you see, hear, and feel. Make your readers feel like they're right there with you, experiencing life as a giant for a day! Give your story an exciting beginning, a fun middle, and a satisfying end.

💡 Writing Tips

  • Start by describing the very moment you realise you're huge!

  • Think about what looks different from way up high. Are the houses like tiny toy bricks?

  • What's the funniest or trickiest thing about being so big? (Like trying to put on your shoes!)

  • How do other people react when they see you? Are they scared, amazed, or friendly?

  • What could you do that only a giant can do? Maybe help someone or reach something very high.

  • Use exciting words to make your story come alive, like 'colossal', 'dizzying', or 'tremendous'!
